Huh? Spell Again! Strategies for Improving Finger Spelling Skills

Workshop Description: In this workshop, participants will learn the purpose of fingerspelling in ASL discourse and identify fingerspelling production norms.  They will also learn and demonstrate strategies for receptive and expressive fingerspelling.  Topics will include common problems encountered with fingerspelling, use of prediction and cloze skills and the application of fingerspelling in interpreting situations.

Presenter: Rita Wedgeworth

Presenter Bio:  Rita Lee Wedgeworth has a Bachelor of Science degree and is a BEI Level IV and Texas Court Certified Interpreter with over 25 years experience in the deaf/hard of hearing community. 

She is a founding Partner of Communication Axess Ability Group, CAAG, in Houston, TX.  Rita is currently the President of Texas Society of Interpreters for the Deaf and is on the RID Region IV Presidents Council. 

She also serves on the Advisory Board for the Interpreter Training Programs of Houston Community College and Lone Star College.
